Opening Circle Time: During this time the snack helper for the day assists with our morning calendar. We talk about the days of the week, months, and season. We also discuss the weather and special activities that are happening in our classroom for the week. Other important literacy activities that encourage children to experiment with sounds, letters, new words, and written language are also regularly introduced during Opening Circle Time.
Small Group Instruction/Center Time: This is where our learning centers take place. Children try out new vocabulary and conversational skills as they visit a variety of Learning Centers set up around the classroom. Learning Centers offer play with a purpose. Each center actively encourages children to make choices and become independent thinkers while trying out new skills. My assistant and I also use this time to pull children in smaller groups in order to observe and assess and reinforce skills we are learning. The centers that are offered in our classroom include: -Building Blocks -Dramatic Play -Train Table/Cars -Classroom Library -Promethean Board -Sensory Table -Writing Table -Manipulative's Table -Activity with teacher -Art Center -Math Center -Science Center -Easel
Lesson on Carpet: I use this time to read a story to the children that is related to our theme of the week. I will also be using our Promethean Board at this time to introduce or review skills in an interactive way.
Small Group Learning Time: During this time I will do a Whole Group lesson. I will read a story to the children that practices skills such as listening, participating, and comprehension. I will also do our Religion lesson during this time. After a story, we break off into small groups where we provide direct instruction in literacy, math, science, social and emotional development, fine motor, or other content areas. We use this time to individualize instruction by providing different activities for advanced learners and for children who need re-teaching or reinforcement.
